"1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus… 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.”
Message: 2 Timothy 2:1,3-7
Promise: The grace that is in Christ Jesus (v1.c) for the Lord will give you insight into all this (v.7b)
Command: Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (v.1) Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus (v.3) Reflect on what I am saying (v.7a)
Warning:No one serving as a solider gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commander officer(v.4) Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. (v.5) The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops (v.6)
Application: First of all, I need to be strong with the knowledge that Jesus Christ has given us the grace from his Father. For Christ did not die for us or me to be weak but to thrive and to be able to face hardship head on. In this passage it reminds me that as Christians and believers in Christ, our battle has only started, and the devil will continue to try and make us weaker, however through Christ who gives us the strength we will survive. Like a solider who wants to please his commanding officer, so must I please God by not being so caught up in this secular world, in a world that is materialistic and chaotic, I also need to act like an athlete and remember that in order for an athlete to be a champion, he/she will need to follow the regulations of the games. So like that athlete, I as a Christian will need to follow and live my the word of God, for this book will serve as the light to our feet and guide us along to victory, Lastly, to be as hardworking as a farmer who plants well for I know that these blessings will come back ,
Prayer: Heavenly Father, the King of Kings and the Lord of lords. Thank you for reminding me that being a Christian is hard work, But I know that through you, strength, determination and protection will be upon us. Please Lord, help me to become that solder that only wants to please you, I want to be that athlete who follows your rules and regulations and that farmer who only plants good seeds for you. Lord, thank you once again. Use me Lord, let your will be done in my life.
