“1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[b] but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[c] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.”

Promise: For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God (v.2a) But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. (v.3) he one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.(v.5c-d)

Application: I always have to remember that being able to speak in tongues benefits me for I get to talk tot the Lord. However, it is also very good to ask for the gift of prophecy for it benefits not just myself but the church and the people around me.
Prayer:Lord thank you for the spiritual gifts that you have provided me. Thank you for the ability to speak in tongues and for being able to speak to you privately. Lord, I do ask you for the gift of prophecy for it is a way to help others along with the church to grow in spiritually with you. Lord, please grant me this gift. But Lord until then I pray that you give me the patience to wait for I know that you will answer my prayers in the right time.
